Why sell to the employees?
It is estimated that almost one third of European
enterprises will face the problem of succession in the next 10 years
– an average of 600,000 small and medium sized enterprises
will be changing hands each year potentially affecting 2.4 million
jobs.
• Many thriving businesses disappear when an owner wants to
move on or retire because they can find no buyers to take the business
on.
• Many successful units of larger businesses disappear when
these want to divest or downsize.
Jobs are lost and irreparable damage done to the local economy.
Selling the tangible assets may only realise a fraction of the going
concern value and a trade sale opens up the intimate details of
a business to competitors.
